Is Foreign pharmacy degree valid in India?
Foreign pharmacy degree is not a valid qualification for practice in India.

  • In India, pharmacy is a regulated profession and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is the statutory body that regulates the practice of pharmacy in India.
  • The Pharmacy Act of 1948 and the Pharmacy Rules of 1945 are the laws that govern the practice of pharmacy in India. According to the Pharmacy Act, a person must possess a valid pharmacy degree from a recognized university in India in order to practice pharmacy in India.
  • A foreign pharmacy degree is not recognized in India and thus, is not a valid qualification for practice in India. This means that a person with a foreign pharmacy degree cannot practice pharmacy in India.

However, a person with a foreign pharmacy degree can apply for a registration with the Pharmacy Council of India. The applicant must satisfy the eligibility criteria of the Pharmacy Council of India and must submit the required documents including the foreign pharmacy degree. This will enable the applicant to obtain a registration with the Pharmacy Council of India and thus, be allowed to practice pharmacy in India.

The Pharmacy Council of India also has certain guidelines for the recognition of foreign pharmacy degrees. According to these guidelines, the foreign pharmacy degree must be recognized by the Indian Embassy in the country where the degree was obtained. The degree must also be recognized by the country’s pharmacy council.

In addition, the foreign pharmacy degree must be accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO) or by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). The degree must also be recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) or by the Indian Medical Council (IMC).

Thus, while a foreign pharmacy degree is not a valid qualification for practice in India, a person with a foreign pharmacy degree can obtain a registration with the Pharmacy Council of India and thus, be allowed to practice pharmacy in India.
