Can I study medicine in India without NEET?
Yes, you can study medicine in India without NEET. Although NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the doorway for admission into medical colleges for undergraduate courses in India and is compulsory for admission to all medical courses, there are a few exceptions to this rule.

  • The National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) is only applicable to those seeking admission in the government and private Medical colleges in India. However, if you want to pursue medicine through other routes, then there are some alternatives available.
  • Firstly, you can apply for admission in a Deemed University which is not regulated by the NEET. Deemed universities are established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. These universities are not recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and they do not require the NEET exam.
  • Secondly, you can pursue MBBS through the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Selection in the college is based on entrance tests conducted by the AFMC. The entrance test includes a written exam followed by an interview. After completing the course, the student is awarded an MBBS degree recognized by the MCI. The students of the AFMC are also eligible for post graduation in the field of medicine.
  • Thirdly, you can pursue MBBS through the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). AIIMS has its own entrance exam, the AIIMS MBBS, which is conducted twice a year. The entrance test is followed by an interview. After completing the course, the student is awarded an MBBS degree recognized by the MCI.
  • Fourthly, you can pursue MBBS from abroad. There are many universities in developed countries like the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, etc. which offer MBBS without the NEET. These universities offer a wide range of courses and the students, on the completion of their course, are awarded degrees recognized by the medical councils of different countries.
  • Lastly, you can pursue MBBS through the Distance Education route. Distance education is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Several universities offer MBBS through distance education, which does not require NEET. However, it is important to note that the degree obtained through this method is not recognized in many countries.

So, to answer the question, yes, you can pursue medicine in India without NEET.
