The cost of completing engineering in India follows a wide range due to the availability of engineering courses in various universities, institutes, and colleges. The cost also depends on course type, institution tier and locality, and other minor factors.

  • Engineering courses can range from INR 40,000 to 4 lakhs per year. Generally, the cost is directly proportional to the tier of the institution offering the course for example, engineering courses offered by IITs cost comparatively more than that of government colleges. The tuition fee for selected courses increases as the tier of the University increases. Also, the tuition fee varies with the course type, like engineering courses in computer science and information technology may cost more than that of mechanical engineering. In addition to tuition fee, students have to bear other costs such as hostel and mess fees, library fees, laboratory fees, and so on.

The fee for B.Tech. course in NITs ranges from INR 40,000 to 2 lakhs per annum and that for M.Tech. course ranges from INR 1.5 lakhs to 2 lakhs per annum. In addition to tuition fee, students have to bear other costs like hostel fees, library fees, laboratory fees and other miscellaneous expenses as well.
  • In government colleges and universities, the cost of completing engineering varies between INR 30,000 to 1.5 lakhs per annum. The tuition fee for B.Tech. course in government colleges ranges from INR 30,000 to 1 lakh per annum and that for M.Tech. course is around INR 50,000 to 1.5 lakhs per annum. In addition to the tuition fee, other costs such as hostel and mess fees, library fees, laboratory fees, and other miscellaneous expenses have to be borne by the students.
